KoN have new main sponsor

The KoN are proud to have fellow Nottinghamites Castle Rock Brewery as their new main sponsor. Colin Wilde, the Commercial Director of Castle Rock, was equally pleased to be able to pen a three year deal, which will see two of Nottingham's best  exports flying the flag around Europe together.  It you have already booked the KoN for 2010, or as considering doing so, then why not ask about the possibility of  Castle Rock Brewery  providing some refreshments on the day for your event? Has anyone seen my finger?

Hampton Court in Herefordshire was the setting for the August Bank Holiday shows this year. A new venue for the KoN and hopefully the success of the two days of shows and the great crowds will make this a firm fixture on the annual calendar.
Just to prove that even well rehearse fights can sometime go wrong, one of our Men at Arms now has a shorter digit than he started the day with, losing the tip of his finger in a broad sword fight! Remember kids, don't try this at home on your brothers and sisters, it is dangerous!

Lincoln saves the day

It was a joy to be back at  Lincoln Castle, surely one of the most picturesque  settings in the country to do battle, right next to Lincoln Catherdral and the original cobbled streets surrounding it. Robert of Lincoln, the Castles champion knight, was there to defend the castles honour against the dispicable intentions of the Black Knight . Cheered on by hundreds of kids, including a big troop of international Cub Scouts, Lincoln saved the day and sent the Bl;ack Knight packing back to Nottingham, where he sits and schemes for another chance of revenge.

All steamed up

Hundreds of steam engines and farming vehicles, of all shapes and sizes were on parade over the rally weekend. The weather behaved itself  for  the tens of thousands who came out to enjoy the all the stalls and activities provided.  With thousands choosing to camp or caravan, the event  covered miles of open farmland, with the KoN taking center stage in the main area, doing two shows a day. The praise and positive comments received were humbling and it was a joy to perform for such an appreciative crowd.

Heveningham place to be

Heveningham Hall once again opened its beautiful grounds to host a feast of entertainment for the good people of Suffolk. There were marching bands, steel bands, motor cycle stunt riders, and all manor of  country fair activities and attractions as well as two shows from the KoN. On what threatened to be a very damp day, both the sun and the people came out in support and good times were had by all.

Rode Ridder forever

Rode Ridder, Belgium's medieval folk hero and his trusted men, answered the challenge of the evil Pynnock and his band of ruthless mercenaries on the jousting grounds of Horst Castle in Holsbeek, just outside of Leuven. Over three gruelling days immense crowds were treated to challenge after challenge of bone crushing foot fights and full jousting combat, where literally the last man standing claimed victory .  To the delight  of  (nearly) all, it was Rode Ridder himself, who took the spoils, but only after a full on melee that  had the crowd on their feet  cheering their hero to victory.
Pynnock left battered and bruised, but vowed to avenge his defeat .

Rockingham Deja Vu

Could it really happen two years in a row? Yes it could - warm sunny weather and record crowds all graced the wonderful setting of Rockingham Castle for another day of Jousting, entertainment and picnics.
If you missed out on this splendid day, why not try and make the next one, when the KoN are back at Rockingham Castle on the 13th of September. this will be the first time that Rockingham has staged two events in the same year and your support could make this happen every year if successful

Henry Approves

So many people came to Bexley Hall to see the Jousting Show, that the start had to be delayed nearly 45 minutes to allow the majority of people in. A fantastic crowd were enthralled with the unrelenting action, which all took place in front of  Royalty , as the tournament was graced by the presence of no less than Henry VIII himself.  To the victor go the spoils and King Henry declared Sir Malcolm of Roxborough, a good and true Knight as the victor and  his champion to face all comers

Black Knight tied up in Notts

Tens of thousands of people came to the Newark and Notts County Show over a two day period and were treated to another failed attempt on the part of the Black Knight to seek revenge over his rival.
The crowd were in good voice to cheer along their hero and his drunken friend Sir  Fredrick, which gave them the extra energy needed to counteract the dirty deeds of the Black Knights camp to be proclaimed victors on both days.
Will the Black Knight finally get his revenge this year? Come along to a show near you to find out.

Robins Rugby Success

With well over 700 people attending the Jousting Spectacular in aid of
Nottingham Rugby at Nottingham Castle, Rob Harding the Commercial Manager for Nottingham Rugby heralded the day as a great success.
The event was officially opened by the real Sheriff of Nottingham Cllr Brian Growcock and then the audience were treated to a fantastic display of acrobatic skill in very windy conditions by the Dako Flying Angels. Robin and his men then went head to head in contests of skill and bravery with the evil Sheriff and his Knights and Men at Arms. Robin eventually won on the day, but the Sheriff has already thrown down the gauntlet for revenge.  People could try their hand at archery for themselves, which was provided by
Adrenalin Jungle and Castle Rock Brewery were on hand for some fine real ale refreshments, which proved so popular, they had to send out for more casks!
Plans are already afoot for a follow up event next year with even more entertainment and attractions planned for the day.

George is on Parade

St George was called up for duty once again, this time heading up the Lord Mayors Parade into Market Square Nottingham.
The procession started at Nottingham Castle with  the roads were lined with hundreds of people who waved on the Knights and the long parade that included the Mounted Police, military bands and representatives from local Nottingham companies.
The Parade was all part of the three day St Georges celebrations put on by the Nottingham Council

George goes to the Trip

The Oldest Inn in England,  Ye Olde Trip to Jeruselam in Nottingham celebrated St Georges Day in Style with St George himself opening up the new  merchandise shop, now situated in the old top room bar.  The press and TV were there to record the event and St George, his squire and his trusty steed made themselves available for that great photo moment for every English patriot on their Saints Day.
"It was a fantastic way to open our new shop and celebrate St Georges Day" said Rosie the landlady of the Trip "Regulars and new visitors really enjoyed having their photo taken with the Knights and their horse Trooper and all went away with a real memento of the day"

Sandwell Success

Another bumper crowd enjoyed an early St. George celebration and jousting show at  Dartmouth Park in West Bromich. For the second year in a row, the KoN have performed to a gracious and learnered audience. With the weather being kinder than last year, people flocked to the park to enjoy a fun fair, food and drink a medieval village and other local community attractions laid on by Sandwell Council. Even Keith Chegwin proved a big hit with the younger generation!

Rugby lads game for anything!

To help continue the promotion of the Jousting show for Nottingham Rugby at  Nottingham Castle on the 3rd of May, three of the Nottingham team came up for a photo session. It was Andy Savage, Nottingham Winger, who drew the short straw, but was game enough to dress as Marion. He was supported by Tim Usasz (Scrum Half) as Friar Tuck and Ben Thompson (Fly Half) as Will Scarlet and of course our very own Sheriff of Nottingham and Robin Hood.
Our thanks go out to Brian Pollard, photographer, who offered his services at late notice.

Brimming at Brid

For many years Sewerby Hall on the Easter Monday has become the unofficial opening event for the KoN and this year was no exception.
A fantastic and very vocal crowd of over 2500 cheers and booed their hearts out  and a great day was had by the audience and the KoN alike.
To see so many happy faces every year makes the early start so worth while and they are a hardy lot in Bridlington. Recent times have seen us perform in rain, fog and even snow last year, but this year stayed dry and there was even a hint of sunshine.
See you next year the good people of Yorkshire!

The Sheriff and Robin must wait!

Unfortunately the planed confrontation between the Sheriff and Robin at the Nottingham v London Welsh game on the 5th of April, to help promote the Jousting spectacular for Nottingham Rugby was halted by Notts County prior to the game. Even the Sheriff it seems doesn't have enough influence to get his way on the hallow Meadow Lane turf.
Undeterred the KoN handed out hundreds of flyers to the eager fans on the day. Tickets will be limited, so if you don't want to miss out on the battle of all battles at
Nottingham Castle on the 3rd of May, then make sure you book your tickets in advance ONLINE.
The KoN, Nottingham Castle and the
Adrenalin Jungle have provided their services free of charge, with a host of other  Nottingham companies all pitching in to try and raise as much money for the club as possible.

St George helps slay the Dragons

Continuing the build up for the Jousting spectacular at Nottingham Castle on the 3rd of May  in aid of Nottingham Rugby, our very own St George was asked to lead the player out on the pitch for the game against the London Welsh. One of our more shy and retiring members of the troop was happy to oblige. After an indifferent first half that saw  the Dragon's go into the break in the lead 10-14, Nottingham came with real steel between their teeth to finally slay the Dragon's 30-24.

Ruddington Young Farmers Put through Their Paces

The Ruddington Young Farmers had another enjoyable and education evening with the KoN. After a full health and safety induction, they were given their chance to try out the complete array of weapons used in shows and found out for themselves, it is not as easy as it looks to fight with these heavy weapons. As usually happens, it was the girls who came out on top and their enthusiasm for hitting people with the ball and chain and the axe in particular, was actually quite scary!  For  some reason though the longest queue of the night, was to have a go at hitting the chest amour of their chairperson with a double headed axe!

Comic Jousting Relief

The KoN with the help of the Bunny Riding School raised approx £2000 for Comic Relief  on the evening of Friday 13th.  The KoN were overwhelmed by the support and attendance of over 200 people, who were thoroughly entertained, fed and watered all in aid of a record breaking night for Comic Relief.  This proved a great  curtain raiser for the new season ahead, which will be one of the busiest schedules undertaken by the KoN for many years.
The KoN would like to say a huge thank you to all those who came and made it a real night to remember.
